Guide for Installing Smart Direct's Artificial Grass

Equipment: spade, turf cutter, hand roller or vibrating plate, wheel barrow, a sharp Stanley knife, large pair of sharp scissors, stiff brush, hammer, pegs, geo-textile, rake.

Before you Start and Ground Preparation for gardens

Work out the lengths and widths of artificial grass you require. Lay out the area where you intend to install the artificial grass.

Remove all vegetation and rocks, down to the bare earth using a turf cutter or spade.

A sub base of sand is installed. This base should be porous.

Spread, level and compact the sub base with a hand roller or vibrating plate.

During dry conditions wet the sub base a day before the installation.

Peg a geo-textile weed barrier to the base.

In some certain circumstances you may need to use the wooden border.

Installation on Gardens

Cut carefully in the backing of the artificial grass and trim.

Fix with adhesive or stainless screws on wooden beams (treated to prevent moisture) or with stainless nails in the sub base.

Sweep dry kiln sand into the pile after laying the grass to weigh the grass down and stand the grass pile up.

Seaming tape - adhesive (if joining)

Pile Direction

Adjacent rolls should be laid together ensuring that straight cut edges can be butted close together.

Butt both surfaces together, ensuring the pile is running in the same direction.

The seaming tape is used to put the rolls together. Unroll the seaming tape along the seam line, ensuring equal tape laid centrally along the seam

Apply the adhesive with a spatula or glue cartridge gun to the top surface of the seaming tape.

Installation on existing hard surfaces

Remove surface imperfections

Thoroughly clean to remove all dirt, paint, grease that will prevent good adhesion

Rolls can be loose laid or fixed with a spots of outdoor adhesive or with double-sided adhesive tape.

Brush the piles once installed.

Depending on grass product sweep dry kiln sand into the pile after laying the grass to weigh the grass down and stand the grass pile up.
